The MREC meets in three chambers, in alternating sequence. Chambers A and B meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, respectively, from 20.00 hours onwards, in one of the meeting rooms at the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen. Chamber C meets on the 1st Thursday of the month, at the Medical Center Leeuwarden.
The authorities and procedures of both chambers are identical. A decision taken by a chamber is to be considered as a decision taken by the MREC. A chamber consists of 9 to 11 members, and includes representatives of all the legally required disciplines. When required additional meetings can be planned.
Within 48 hours after the deliberations the applicant is notified (via email followed by letter) about whether the study:
- received a positive review
- was negatively reviewed*
- was postponed**
* Of course, in case of a negative review the applicant will be informed of the grounds for rejecting the protocol.
** When review of the protocol is postponed the applicant may be asked to answer potential questions and/or provide additional information or updates. When all conditions of the MREC are met the protocol may be eligible for an interim approval.
The MREC may offer the applicant of the study the opportunity to be heard during the meeting, via teleconference.
The meetings are all planned in advance, check here for the complete meeting schedule.
